BENNINGTON, Vt., August 5, 2014— P.M.H Credit Union of Bennington and VSECU, the only credit union to offer statewide membership in Vermont, successfully completed a merger to bring greater financial service access and convenience to the combined membership beginning August 1.
The 1,206 members of P.M.H. CU merged into VSECU which now serves 54,000 members. The merger gives the former members of P.M.H CU access to a broader array of financial products and services and creates a physical footprint for VSECU to serve members from the Southwestern VT Medical Center campus branch located in the Toolan Building.
“We are excited about pooling our resources together for the benefit of our existing members and for the Bennington community,” said VSECU’s CEO, Robert Miller. “Our commitment is to share and expand our cooperative model with everyone in Vermont and demonstrate how VSECU is redefining banking. We look forward to making a positive impact on the lives of community members in Bennington.” Miller said that VSECU intends to expand branch operations, with a new street side presence, to better serve existing and new members interested in joining the credit union. Several locations are being explored ranging from downtown to other outside locations.
To help facilitate the expansion into the Bennington market, liaisons from the community have been identified to represent the voice of members in the area. “Although we have been serving members in Bennington for years, we recognize that we need to rely on the local mindset of community members to help direct the credit union in meeting our members’ expectations,” said Miller. The credit union has created a local advisory group of six individuals from the Bennington area including Janet Hollner, the former chair of P.M. H. Credit Union.
Laurie Gormley, who remains the branch manager, says that the transition to VSECU for herself, staff and members has been a smooth transition. “We’ve assisted the community for 37 years with personalized ‘person with a pulse’ service as P.M.H. CU and we don’t expect that to change for anyone now that we’ve merged. The only thing that is different is that we are able to share the gift of credit union membership with more of our neighbors now.”
VSECU is a not for profit banking alternative for all Vermonters that is owned and controlled by its members and governed by an elected volunteer board of directors. The credit union offers a full range of affordable financial products and services to its member owners. People eligible to join the credit union include anyone who lives or works in Vermont.
